Shul Management Meeting Notes from July 16

A meeting was held on Sunday, July 16 and these are some of the important items that were discussed and decided:

  • A decision was made to have a 'management meeting' or 'executive meeting' monthly on the second Sunday of the month.
  • The Mizrachi Bayit will hold an election for a long, overdue executive council. If you want to make a nomination, please send the information to Les Lightstone les.light53@gmail.com.
    We need
nominations for: President, Vice President and Secretary. Nominations for these positions will be closed by September 1. Voting will take place via Survey Monkey and voting will close September 14, 2017. The goal is to have the new officers in place before Rosh Hashanah.
    Nomimations
to date: President - Saul Melamed, Vice-President - Gord Akum. The following positions are filled: Treasurer - Morty Shapiro, Auditor - Ira Walfish, Gabbai - Jerrold Landau, Assistant Gabbai - Mayer Bernstein.
  • The August BBQ will be held on August 27, 2017, at the home of Gord Akum.
  • There is no one to take over the Children's Program in September. The Mizrachi Bayit is looking for two teenagers to lead the Children's Program. If you have any leads or can help with finding appropriate leaders please contact Saul Melamed or Karen Gordon.
  • A suggestion was raised that all the parents of young children get together for a focus meeting to agree on expectations, hear what is done at other shuls, and discuss future plans, requirements and necessities for our Children's Program.
  • Ten Koren siddurim are to be purchased
  • We need someone from the MB community to step forward and learn about Shul Cloud from Sholom at some point. There is an excellent help desk that will the new Shul Cloud maven excellent backup.

Kiddush This Week
Kiddush this week is sponsored by the Mizrachi Bayit.

We're always happy to have someone sponsor a kiddush. Laya and Les will be in Israel for the next few weeks so if you want to make arrangements for a kiddush during that time, payment for the kiddush should be made to Morty and any special items will need to be arranged for and purchased by you.

Upcoming Events

The following events will be happening in the coming days and weeks:

The Evidence Room - Royal Ontario Museum June 25 - January 28 (Level 3)

An examination of the chilling role architecture played in constructing Auschwitz.
The Evidence Room, constructed entirely in white, focuses on the coldly calculated architectural decisions which culminated in a factory of death. Full-scale reconstructions of three key components of the Auschwitz gas chambers—a gas column, gas-tight door, and gas-tight hatch—and over 60 plaster casts of architectural evidence, such as blueprints, contractors’ bills and photographs, speak eloquently as silent material witnesses to the horrors of Auschwitz.

is a powerful installation which reconstructs key objects used in the forensic analysis of the architecture of Auschwitz. Historian Robert Jan van Pelt introduced the objects as evidence in a court case to demonstrate that Auschwitz was purposefully designed as a death camp. The Evidence Room

This ground-breaking research became a source for a new and emerging discipline—architectural forensics—encompassing architecture, technology, history, law and human rights.
