Miz Movie Night: The Mystery of San Nicandro

Vanessa Dylyn, producer of the film, will introduce the film and take Q&A afterward

$15 for members; $18 for non-members

Food and drink will be served.

The Mystery of San Nicandro is a compelling story that unfolded in Fascist Italy, of a simple Italian man, Donato Manduzio, who had a mystical vision that resulted in the only mass conversion to Judaism in modern history.

But it is much more: today, there is an extraordinary revival of Judaism in southern Italy - synagogues have opened in Calabria and Sicily for the first time in 500 years - centuries after the Spanish Inquisition forced Jewish communities to convert to Catholicism or flee.

This eye-opening film takes us on a journey of identity search, revealing some of the hidden Jewish facts of Italy – present and ancient past.

You can experience the day through an informally chosen track, or you can jump around and enjoy a broad spectrum of sessions and presenters. Whatever you decide, you'll get up close to the most significant issues in our community and the Jewish world.

Topics represented in our exciting new tracks include: Jewish identity, issues in Jewish education, inclusion and diversity in contemporary Jewish practice, current and future political challenges, history and philosophy, art and literature, engaging with Torah and Talmud, festivals and holidays, social activism, and Israeli and diaspora perspectives.
